BSA Troop 184 Information
Crossroads Presbyterian Church of Monroeville has sponsored Boy Scout Troop 184 for over 40 years. Troop 184 has approximately 40 registered scouts. The Troop meets each Thursday at 7 PM in Fellowship Hall at the church. This boy-led troop empowers boys to be leaders by allowing them to develop a troop program and then take responsibility for figuring out how to achieve their goals. The troop schedules one or two events each month consisting of campouts, backpacking trips, community service projects, and activities such as swimming, dodge ball, snow tubing, plus much more.
Summer Camp
Each summer Scouts from Troop 184 are afford a long term camping opportunity. Troop 184 will rotates between attending summer camp at Heritage Reservation, Greater Pittsburgh Council summer camp, and attending an out of council camp. In the past Troop 184 has attended summer camp at Camp Seph Mack, Camp Conestoga, and the Blue Ridge Scout Reservation in Virginia. Every four years all Scouts will be given an opportunity to attend summer camp outside the Western Pennsylvania area. This trip will to the extent practical incorporate a High Adventure component for the older Scouts. The Troop will assume the cost of transportation, food and accommodations.
High Adventure
As a means of retaining older Scouts, as well as, a way of promoting advancement to the higher ranks of Scouting BSA Troop 184 has established a high adventure program. Every summer Troop 184 will provide older scouts with an opportunity for an extended stay, affordable High Adventure experience. Affordable means costing the scout no more than a week of summer camp. Every four years older Scouts will be given an opportunity to attend as a Troop a BSA National High Adventure Base. In the summer of 2008 23 members of Troop had the opportunity to travel to New Mexico for a 10 day backpacking. The Scouts hike the rugged mountain trails of the Philmont Scout Ranch. Over the Christmas break 24 members of the Troop enjoyed the warm winter breezes off the Flordia Keyes as they sailed 41 foot boats as part of Florida National High Adventure Sea Base’s Coral Reef Sailing program. The cost of this type trips are subsidized so as to afford everyone an opportunity to attend. No Scout will ever be left behind because of cost.

Toys for Tots
Christmas decoration for a local nursing home
Christmas nativity display
In addition each year members of the Troop assist in a variety of Eagle Scout service projects.
Troop Meeting
Troop 184 meets every Thursday from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM including the summer.
Committee Meeting
Troop committee meets the first Wednesday of each month beginning at 7:00 PM. All parents are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
